Turnagain Arm Glacier Discovery
Experience the breathtaking winter landscapes of Turnagain Arm, where the tidewaters of Tikhatnu (Cook Inlet) meet the snow-covered peaks of the Chugach Mountains. This scenic route transforms into a serene world of ice and light — a true Alaskan winter wonderland.
Along the way, keep an eye out for wildlife: moose often wander through the frozen valleys, bald eagles perch in the treetops, and with a bit of luck, you might spot Dall sheep clinging to the cliffs above the Seward Highway.
Our journey includes iconic stops such as Beluga Point, Portage Valley, and the cozy ski town of Girdwood, home to Alyeska Resort. Guests can enjoy a warm coffee break, take a peaceful rainforest walk to a hidden waterfall, or ride the Alyeska Tram (weather permitting) for sweeping alpine views.
To cap off the day, we’ll drive up to Flattop Mountain for a panoramic view of Anchorage, the Cook Inlet, and the Matanuska Valley — and if the skies are clear, you may even glimpse Denali in the distance.
Optional Add-On: From Friday through Monday, guests may visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center to see Alaska’s iconic big game animals up close and learn about the state’s active wildlife conservation programs. Alternatively, enjoy a cross-country skiing experience in Girdwood, gliding through peaceful snow-covered trails framed by the dramatic peaks of the Chugach Mountains.
